For those who miss their favourite Malaysian/Singaporean food, and those who wish to taste the authentic dishes of the 2 countries, you will find them at Straits Kitchen. Once you've consumed the food and drinks, you will keep returning as we do. We have lunched in this restaurant several times and will continue to go there at every opportunity. It is worth travelling 1.5 hours just to eat at this restaurant. The food, presentation and the service are exceptional. It's a pleasure to chat with the sociable and helpful owner and staff. When we are there to tuck into the delectable food, we feel that we are actually eating in Malaysia/Singapore. Love all the dishes we have had so far but for me the nasi lemak, beef rendang, nasi goreng kampong, kumara donuts, sago gula Melaka, onde ondeh buah Melaka, pengat pisang, chendol are a must try. The customers are all very friendly while they glance at each others orders. I have heard comments from them like "wow, tastes like food at home", "this is delicious", "not homesick for food now". Love the ambience in this large, welcoming restaurant with high ceilings. The fire place is innovative and sort of in the centre of the restaurant. We loved watching the dancing flames, listening to the crackling of wood, and feeling the warmth on a cold Winter's day.
Great food, seafood was to die for. Delicious banna coffee ice cream. Rose extract milk shake was even better than it looked. Awsome service. Just a great dining experience overall, and all for a good price. Can't to wait to come again.
We just finished a beautiful authentic Malay meal at this gem of a restaurant in the heart of the North Island, warm service and fire, highly recommend stopping here, we will be visiting again
